If you are looking to get fit and fancy something a little bit different from the gym or swimming every weekend, have you ever thought about competing or at least taking part in running events? Running events can be a fantastic way of getting fit, because you not only have to train for them but you then actually have to take part in them, which all leads to a much fitter and maybe slimmer you!
There are many different kinds of running events that take place, from speed events over shorter distances through to endurance events that can last many hours, such as marathons and ultra running events.
The nice thing about running is that you can do it anywhere, whether it’s through the local city at night or up in the hills of your local national park, you can choose where you run and how far you go, which is ideal if you only have limited spare time through the week but a bit more to play with on weekends.
When it comes to starting up running, it can be a good idea to join a gym for a little bit and just get some basic training under your belt, because it is extremely dangerous just to start running long distances with no preparation.
